Teaching kids to expand their thinking, become more creative and observe relationships between unlike things can be taught. One of the ways to do this is to employ the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. framework of inventive thinking.  By taking an original idea and playing with ways to reimagine in by Substituting, Combining, Adapting, Magnifying, Putting it to another use, Eliminating part or Rearranging it, helps kids break out of the “I don’t know or I don’t get it” type of thinking!

Inspired Classroom is launching the S.C.A.M.P.E.R.: Inventive Thinking Challenge! This guided project walks kids through the challenge of coming up with a new and innovative game to play. Along the way they’ll learn about other inventors and inventions, practice observing and using the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. framework as they work through the steps of research, brainstorming, decision making, prototyping, writing directions, and final design. Explanatory videos help them understand the tasks at hand.

Final products can be made with common household items and games. Kids take a photo of their final game with directions and explanation and upload them for review by Inspired Classroom staff.  Super creative ideas will be shared on IC’s social media.

This S.C.A.M.P.E.R.: Inventive Thinking Challenge is FREE to teachers and parents.  It is also appropriate for any age level with different levels of support. The end product is not important. The thinking process is the goal so created games can be as sophisticated as the thinker.  Have Fun!
